Meta title and description checker
Paste a URL and see roughly the result Google would show: the title cut about where Google cuts it, the description and the address. Then what to fix: title and description lengths, canonical URL, noindex, viewport and favicon, with the share card and AI crawlers too.
We fetch the page once, with its share image, favicon, robots.txt and llms.txt. We don’t save the report.
The tags a search result reads
| tag | what to put in it |
|---|---|
| <title> | The product name and what it does, under about 60 characters, the important words first. |
| meta description | One or two sentences, 50–160 characters. |
| link rel="canonical" | The one URL you want listed, on your own host. |
| meta robots | Leave noindex off any page you want found. |
| meta viewport | width=device-width, initial-scale=1, so phones show the page at its real size. |
| link rel="icon" | Your favicon: Google shows it beside the result. |
Questions
How long should a meta title be?
Google doesn’t set a character limit: it cuts titles by width, about 600 pixels, which is roughly 50–60 characters. This checker warns past 60. Put the words that matter first. Google sometimes rewrites a title that doesn’t match the page.
How long should a meta description be?
There’s no fixed limit either: Google cuts snippets by width, usually somewhere around 160 characters on desktop. This checker wants 50–160. Google often writes its own snippet from the page when that fits the search better, so treat the description as a suggestion; share previews fall back to it too.
Do you store the pages I check?
No. We fetch the page, its share image, favicon, robots.txt and llms.txt once and show you the report; we don’t save it.
